Ready for Retirement?The Nightly Business Report (NBR) is offering a television series, also available in online streaming video, to help ensure that your finances will last through your retirement years.

NBR’s “Get Your Finances Ready for Retirement” is a year-long series designed to help soon-to-be and recent retirees make the financial transition from work life to retirement life. Reports will appear in the NBR program on alternate Mondays, and additional information — including companion articles from U.S. News & World Report — will appear on their website regularly.

The series already started in May 2008 and will last through April 2009. You can review past episodes on their streaming video website and schedule for upcoming shows through their broadcast calender.

Arizona Unclaimed PropertyAlthough each year the Arizona Department of Revenue makes significant efforts to locate the owners of unclaimed property there’s still millions of dollars worth of property being abandoned. Does the State have your property?

Unclaimed property is money or intangible property owed to an individual or business. Property is considered unclaimed after it is held for an extended period of time with no owner contact and a “good faith” effort has been made to locate the owner. Abandoned property is turned over to the Arizona Department of Revenue from many sources, including banks, credit unions, corporations, utilities, insurance companies, governmental entities and retailers throughout the United States. Play Financial FootballDid you know that, along with managing the State’s tax dollars, the Office of the Arizona State Treasurer also promotes financial literacy to Arizona State residents?

Available online, “Financial Football” puts students’ fiscal knowledge to the test in a simulation game environment by combining the structure and rules of the NFL with financial education questions of varying difficulty. To score points, a team needs to answer a series of money management questions correctly. Wrong answers and penalties can cost a team yardage. The team with the highest point total after four quarters wins the game.
