Researchers at Arizona State University have just completed a comprehensive, two-year study of the State’s infrastructure needs over the next 25 years, and identified several critical conclusions:
- Construction of the state’s infrastructure has not kept pace with the state’s growth over the last 15 years.
- Arizona’s existing physical infrastructure is aging, leading to an increased need for renovation.
- Arizona’s recent population and employment growth has been the greatest ever and this rapid growth is expected to continue, creating a substantial demand for new infrastructure.
- The costs of putting quality infrastructure in place have increased substantially in recent years.
- Support from the federal government is lagging, so state and local governments and the private sector are now responsible for an increased share of the infrastructure costs.

Arizona Watch Your Car
August 8, 2008
If you weren’t aware of it just yet, Arizona is always in the Top-10 List of States with the most auto thefts. In addition, the Phoenix Valley area and Tucson are usually in the Top-10 List of cities with the most stolen vehicles. So, living in this great State of ours requires a little preventative measures on our part.
One of the best ways to help prevent auto thefts is by joining the Arizona Watch Your Car Program. According to the the Arizona Automobile Theft Authority (AATA):
The Watch Your Car Program is a free, voluntary program whereby vehicle owners enroll their vehicles with the Arizona Automobile Theft Authority. The vehicle is then entered into the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) database and participants receive decals for their front and rear windows. By enrolling in this program, vehicle owners convey to law enforcement officials that their vehicle is not usually in use between the hours of 1:00 AM and 5:00 AM, when the majority of auto thefts occur.

Arizona’s Nursing Shortage
June 4, 2008
Arizona faces chronic shortages of nurses, medical technologists, pharmacists, respiratory therapists and other medical professionals. But the most critical of these shortages occurs with nurses, and this shortage is expected to get much worse.
While the general population continues to soar, the numbers of registered nurses (RNs) and other healthcare professionals in Arizona have not kept pace with the state’s rapid population growth. Arizona ranks 45th among all states for employed RNs per capita (681 nurses per 100,000, compared to U.S. average of 825). Read more

Legal Arizona Workers Act
March 29, 2008
In order to help Valley businesses make sense of the new Legal Arizona Workers Act, the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce has prepared a video presentation featuring experts in the fields of law, human resources and public relations.
One of the most hotly-debated and controversial pieces of legislation in recent Arizona history became law on January 1, 2008. The law will impose serious penalties on Arizona businesses that knowingly employ undocumented workers.
“There has been so much discussion and confusion about this new law that we felt it was crucial to give employers some basic, straightforward information,” said GPCC President & CEO Katie Pushor. “While this video can’t answer every question, it’s a great starting point, and we also offer resources where business people can go to find out more information.”

Zila Bankruptcy?
March 13, 2008
I just read the following excerpt from Zila’s most recent 10Q:
These factors raise substantial doubt about our ability to continue as a going concern. As a result, realization values may be substantially different from carrying values as shown and these financial statements do not give effect to adjustments that would be necessary to the carrying values and classification of assets and liabilities should we be unable to continue as a going concern.
Things aren’t looking good for Zila. Read more
